ABOUT Team WRGA
Winnipeg Rhythmic Gymnastics Academy was founded in September 2024 in order to provide rhythmic gymnastics training in a positive environment where all members are supported and encouraged. WRGA founders feel strongly that all athletes be given the opportunites and tools needed to succeed. From Recreational to National stream, Team WRGA believes that rhythmic gymnastics is a sport for all ages and abilites.
At WRGA, our focus is to provide our athletes with the finest training and coaching in Manitoba. We implement goal oriented training programs, working with athletes to achieve their own individual goals. We reinvest any profits into WRGA Programming and our athletes success.
We currently operate out of the University of Manitoba and Whyte Ridge Community Center.
Meet Team WRGA
Coach Alexandra Yarema
Head Coach Alexandra Yarema is a Canadian Rhythmic Gymnast and Coach recognized for her achievements in national and international competition.
A former member of Canada’s Senior High Performance and National Team programs, she has earned titles including Canadian National Champion, Western National Champion, and Provincial Champion during her competitive career. Coach Alex is a Certified Competition 1 Coach, Certified Competition 2, and a Nationally Certified Judge.
Following her retirement from competition in 2021, she transitioned into coaching and now serves as head coach of Winnipeg Rhythmic Gymnastics Academy, where she develops young athletes and promotes excellence in rhythmic gymnastics in Manitoba.
Coach Yurel Markov
Coach Yurel Markov is a former rhythmic gymnast who competed for the club Hapoel Afula in Israel before later relocating to Canada. Coach Yurel participated in international rhythmic gymnastics events, including the 2018 Gracia Fair Cup in Budapest, representing Israel in the Junior category.
Now based in Winnipeg, Coach Yurel is active in the Canadian rhythmic gymnastics community. At WRGA, she coaches recreational, pre-competitive, competitive, and national-stream athletes alongside Coach Alexandra Yarema, helping develop young gymnasts in Manitoba.
Junior Coach Sophia Strygun
Junior Coach Sophia Strygun is a National Stream Gymnast on Team WRGA. Sophia has competed and placed in Provincial, Western, and National Level competitions. She started rhythmic gymnastics at the age of 3, and continues to train and work on her craft. Sophia works with Team WRGA athletes alongside Coach Alex and Coach Yurel to bring out the very best of each gymnast. She is an example to the whole team of excellence, kindness and leadership.
